The choice of former Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Benue State Chapter, John Ngbede as gubernatorial running mate for 2023 elections has been lauded as capable of influencing victory for the party during the polls.
Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, Bemgba Iortyom expressed this confidence in an interaction with The Voice Politics in Makurdi, Friday.
Mr Iortyom, who was reacting on the capacity of the former chairman to influence victory for the party in Zone C Senatorial District said “the choice was a result of wide consultations based on impact on the electoral fortunes. His track records of grassroots base and thorough bred politician status were the overriding factors that informed the choice.”
“The pedigree begins right from when he was Councillor and subsequently Chairman, Apa Local Government Council; he was Special Adviser during George Akume administration and Commissioner of two different ministries at various times under Gabriel Suswam, and was first nominated Deputy Governorship candidate in 2015,” he stated.
Mr Iortyom explained that, “definitely he will improve on his influence because as state chairman in 2019, PDP won elections across the state. It was however, a narrow loss in the Zone, which of course was an improvement as it was an opposition party in the country that time.
“He has extended his contact and tentacles across the state and on that strength, we are banking on him to perform much better than what he did in 2019. He is definitely a stronger politician now.”
