2023 Presidency: Labour Party seeks NLC support for Obi

From Teryima Ajijah, Jos

Labour Party National Chairman, Mr Julius Abure, has solicited the cooperation of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to support groups that are collaborating with its Presidential candidate, Peter Obi to win the 2023 presidential election.

Mr Abure made the call on Thursday in Jos, Plateau state, in a town hall meeting, during a one-day sensitization and mobilization for LP’s presidential flagbearer and other candidates aspiring for different political offices.

The party chairman, who spoke through LP Deputy National Chairman, Mrs Ladi Iliya, urged various groups to establish a link with Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Political Commission in Plateau state for more mobilisation.

“We have discovered that we have many Peter Obi support groups, but we’ve have found out that they are not well coordinated.

“We want the individual groups to work in unison and avoid working at cross purposes for the good of the party.

“Many people don’t know that for the first time the NLC/TUC is having a political commission that is supporting our presidential candidate and other LP candidates.

“We want everyone to know that whatever we are doing, we are doing it in collaboration with the NLC,” he stated.

Abure, who stated that the head of NLC/TUC political commission in Plateau, Dr Dalyop Badung would coordinate the activities of the support groups in the state assured that Obi, the party’s presidential candidate would soon be in Jos to formally inaugurate his support groups.

Speaking, Plateau NLC Chairman, Mr Eugene Manji said that labour unions were supporting LP with hope that it would address issues affecting workers and the generality of Nigerians.

Manji urged those present to convince other people to join the movement which he believes would improve the standard of living of Nigerians.

In his remark, Labour Party North Central Vice Chairman, Mr Adi Shirsha Adi advised the groups to educate Nigerians about the party logo.

Adi revealed that many people were not conversant with LP logo, which he explained is a symbol of father, mother and child.

According to him, the party has the capacity to entrench the good governance that has eluded Nigeria for many years.

Addressing the gathering, Plateau LP Chairman, Mrs Grace Zamfara thanked the people for their support to the party thus far.

Mrs Zamfara said that the party would work assiduously to ensure that LP comes to power in Plateau and Nigeria for the people to enjoy good governance.
