2023: Tiv declare support for Sule’s re-election

Tiv in Nasarawa State have declared their support for the re-election bid of Governor Abdullahi Sule in the 2023 general elections.

The President, Tiv Development Association (TIDA) in the state, Comrade Peter Ahemba made this known on Thursday during a courtesy visit to Governor Sule, held at the Aliyu Akwe Doma Banquet Hall, Government House,  Lafia.

According to him, Governor Sule has demonstrated commitment towards the safety of the Tiv people by dealing decisively with security threats and ensuring that those who were displaced by herders’ attacks in the southern part of the state were returned to their places of abode, hence their support for him.

Ahemba noted that the efforts of the governor towards restoring peace in the area had yielded desired results as evident in the relative peace being enjoyed the  communities, as well the bumper harvest recorded by the people who are predominantly farmers.

“In April this year, the Tiv Development Association was able to revive the Tiv Annual Cultural Day celebration known as Tiv Day which had been comatose for nine (9) years due to incessant security threats that affected our people, particularly in the southern part of the state.This historic event was successfully organised courtesy of your incredible commitment to the peace and security of the state which has become a reference point in the country.

“I wish to use this opportunity to once again express our profound gratitude to Your Excellency for appointing some of our sons and daughters into your government.This kind gesture further demonstrates the all-inclusiveness policy of your administration. I am therefore, delighted to inform you that the appointees are no doubt, representing us well.

“We, therefore, wish to reaffirm our total loyalty and support to the industrialisation agenda of your government which has brought about influx of investors into the state.

“The transformative programmes of your government in virtually all sectors of the economy and the huge investment in peace and security of the state have continued to endear you to the Tiv people, who are the major beneficiaries,” he said.

He, therefore, assured that TIDA  under his leadership will continue to build bridges of peace across nations by working in synergy with the traditional institution, security agencies and other stakeholders to promote peaceful coexistence.

In his remark, Emmanuel Kucha, Former Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi said the governor has done well in security which has demonstrated his love for the Tiv people in the state.

He, therefore, assured of their support to enable him succeed beyond 2023.

Responding, Governor Sule expressed gratitude to the Tiv people for the visit, saying that he will ensure that they get what rightly belong to them in the state.

“The vision of this administration is to ensure that we bring our people together and the people are also part of Nasarawa State and bringing you together means a lot.

“I am happy that the Tiv nation is finally living together as a people,” Sule said.

He, therefore, donated a vehicle to the officials of TIDA to aid their mobility in their peace-building efforts.

The Voice reports that the visit was attended by Sen. Jacob Tilley-Gyado, TIDA officials and members, Tiv traditional rulers in the state and elders among others.
