2023: We’ll seize power from APC, says PDP chair

From Esther Akaa, Lafia

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State says with the progress made so far after a hitch free primary election in the state, it will wrestle power from the incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC) come 2023.

The state Chairman of PDP,  Mr Francis Orogu stated this on Friday in an interview  with journalists, immediately after a meeting with party stakeholders, held in Lafia.

According to him, PDP in the state conducted one of the best primary election without protests or court litigations from candidates who lost out at the polls, saying it was a plus to the party.

“We had three Governorship candidates, 13 Senatorial candidates and over 70 House of Assembly members who contested during the primary  election. Out of this number, we produced a candidate each from these various offices and there is no single petition. That alone is a plus to this party and that is why we have less friction that matters to break the party today.

“This was because no single delegate was removed from any ward or local government areas in the state and that was why with this multitude of contestants, no single protest was recorded, rather we were congratulated by the same people who lost the election. The issue of leaving the party to join other political  parties were also minimal because we have done make to take care of the mistake of the past.”

Orogu alleged that the APC in the state was disintegrating due to the mistreatment of their members, falsification of delegates list among others during the party primary  elections.

“Today in my constituency, I can tell you that APC has two candidates for the state House of Assembly. One of them has already gone to court because the two of them have the recognised form that they won their primaries and this situation is all over in the party in the state.

“So, we this situation we found ourselves and the record we have seen in the just concluded Osun State election, there is a clear indication that any candidate can win election. If the Osun governor with all the strength and backup he had could be defeated, then I think defeating A.A Sule will not be difficult. As far as I am concerned, he is a governor in exit,” he said.

Orogu noted that the party has joined forces with All Progressives Grand Alliance  (APGA) and was strategising on how to come out victorious in the 2023 general election.

He, therefore, called on party stakeholders and supporters to work tirelessly to ensure the victory of the party, come 2023.
