Four arrested, one injured in cult clash

Four suspects have been arrested by a neighborhood security outfit, Aliade Mbalav Youth Security Group in Aliade town, Gwer Local Government Area of Benue State, following rival cult clash in the town last Saturday.

The Voice gathered that the cult clash which took place in the Hausa Quarters area of Aliade, at about 10:15 pm was between the ‘Reds’ and ‘Blacks’ groups.

It is revealed that the clash ended with the Reds injuring 21-year-old Fidelis Ahorkegh a.k.a Master P, removing one of his eye and leaving him in a pool of his blood.

According to a source who pleaded anonymity, the victim was rushed to St Vincent’s Hospital, Aliade for treatment but later referred to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi.

The source further said, the injured Ahorkegh who owns a barber shop in Hausa Quarters abandoned the shop for cultism.

In a chat, the Aliade Mbalav Youth Security Group, Chief Security Officer, Mr Benjamin Orlian, told this correspondent that before information reached their office about the cult clash, the cultists had ended their operation.

He, however, said they were able to arrest four young men with weapons such as; axes, cutlass, hammer, one locally made gun and jack knifes.

Mr Orlian maintained that they were directed by the District Head of Mbalav, Chief Joseph Akase to hand the suspects to the Police for further investigation.

At the time of filling this report, effort to speak with the Aliade Divisional Police Officer (DPO) ASP Baba Ali Baba proved abortive.
