The wave of suspension of chairmen currently sweeping Benue state has hit Agatu Local Government Area, as the legislative council of the area has passed a vote-of-no-confidence and indefinite suspension on the Chairman, Suleiman Adoyi.
The move was made recently during the 6th Assembly of Agatu Legislative Council, where the councilors of the ten wards alleged that the council chairman lacks the capacity to pilot the affairs of the local government and no confidence in his handling of security issues affecting it.
In a statement signed by the ten councillors of Obagaji, Odugbeho, Ogwule Kaduna, Ogwule Ogbulu, Oshigbudu, Ogbaulu, Enungba, Usha, Okokolo and Egba wards on Monday, and made available to The Voice they also decried his response to actions and described his attitude as zero, stressing that the council chairman lacks the competence to handle the security situation in Agatu which requires proactive measures.
The statement further alleged that all the legislative council’s resolutions that have been passed and submitted to the chairman have not been attended to, while the chairman has equally not communicated the security matters and challenges of Agatu Local Government to the security agencies in the area.
The councillors who signed the statement include the Leader of the House, Ochokwu Alelu; Deputy Leader, Abu Julius; Ekoja Andrew, Majority Leader; and the Chief Whip, Samuel Agbenu. Others are Sani Oyi, Ochochi Edache, Adams Obiabo, Abraham Jonah, Seni Musa and Ekoja Odoje.
However, our correspondent’s attempt to reach out to the council chairman for comment on the matter proved abortive as his telephone line was not accessible as at the time of filing this report.
