Chief Assam Sunday, the newly installed Third-Class Chief for Akpa-Otukpo Intermediate Area in Benue State, has called on his subjects to work with him, in order to fast-track development of the area.
Chief Assam, who made the call while interacting with The Voice on Tuesday in Otukpo, said he cannot succeed without the support of the people.
The royal father, who expressed willingness to carry all his subjects along in the discharge of his duties, thanked the Benue State government for accepting the verdict of the Benue State High Court, recognising him as the Third-Class Chief for Akpa-Otukpo and issuing him a letter to that effect.
‘I hereby appeal to my teeming subjects to give me the needed support and work with me, so that we can take Akpa-Otukpo kingdom to the next level of development. Only me can’t succeed in the onerous task of piloting the affairs of the chiefdom.
“On my own part, I’m ready to take everyone along in my leadership and I must thank the Benue State government for accepting the judgement of the court in my favour and also issuing a letter to me as the new Third-Class Chief for Akpa–Otukpo,” he stated.
He singled out the personal contributions of Governor Samuel Ortom, his deputy, Engr Benson Abounu, the Special Adviser for Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barr Ken Achabo, among others that helped to resolve the matter, saying he would not forget them in a hurry.
He hailed the judiciary as the last hope of the common man, adding that the verdict given in his favour by the Benue State High Court, Makurdi, was not for him but for the entire people of Akpa-Otukpo kingdom.
The new monarch, further appreciated the Och’Idoma, His Royal Majesty Dr John Eliagwu and the First-Class Chief for Otukpo-Ohimini, Chief Emmanuel Okochi, for making his recent installation a memorable one while pledging his unalloyed loyalty to them and all other constituted authorities.
He described the advice given to him by the Och’Idoma to ‘rule with the fear of God’ while installing him recently as solomonic, saying, it would serve as a guiding principal of his reign.
Recall that Chief Assam Sunday was recently issued with a letter of appointment by the Benue State Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs as the Third-Class Chief for Akpa-Otukpo, following his victory at the Benue State High Court sitting in Makurdi, the state capital after a long period of legal battle for the coveted stool.
