The Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has donated four new vehicles including one Hilux van, one Coaster bus and two Hiace buses to Lobi Stars Football Club of Makurdi, to ease the transportation challenge of players and officials of the club.
Governor Alia made the donation at the Government House Makurdi Wednesday, when the players and officials of the club led by its Chairman, Barr. Sam Ode and the Vice Chairman, Mr Dominic Iorfa, paid a courtesy call on the him to appreciate him for the support the club has enjoyed under his administration.
The Governor who appreciated the club for its wonderful performances in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) so far this season, said the excellent results the club has achieved have put smiles on the faces of Benue people and called for sustenance.
While promising to ensure that the Aper Aku Stadium is upgraded to international standard before the end of the 2023/2024 Nigerian Professional League Season, to enable the team play their home matches in Makurdi, Alia commended the players for their commitment, promising to continue to provide the team with more incentives towards motivating them to do better.
Earlier in his address, the Chairman of Lobi Stars Football Club, Barr. Sam Ode, thanked the governor for the enormous support he has given the club saying the support has spured the team to do well in the ongoing NPFL Season.
He appreciated the Vice Chairman, Mr. Dominic Iorfa, for the hard work he has put into the club propelling it to the top in spite of the skepticism that surrounded it at the beginning of the season
In their separate remarks, the Vice Chairman of the Club, Mr. Dominic Iorfa and the Club Captain, Daniel Atsaka, congratulated the Governor over his Supreme Court victory.
According to them, the club has enjoyed the best welfare packages so far under his administration, saying the players and officials have not taken that for granted as reflected in their performances.
They called on the people of the state to continue to support the club for more positive results as the season progresses.
Receiving the vehicles on behalf of the Club, the Benue State Commissioner for Youths, Sports and Creativity, Rt. Hon. Terkimbi Ikyange, thanked the governor for the donation and for exhibiting great love for sports and creativity.
He promised to ensure that the club makes judicious use of the vehicles.
A major highlight of the event was the approval for the payment of twelve matches’ bonuses to the players by the Governor.
