The Benue State Commissioner of Youth and Sports, Terkimbir Ikyange has said the government is determined to upgrading sports facilities in the state to modern and enviable standards.
Ikyange disclosed this after inspecting facilities at the Aper Aku and McCarthy Stadia in Makurdi.
He said: “Governor Hyacinth Alia is determined to upgrade sports facilities in the state, to modern and enviable standards where Lobi Stars FC would be playing their NPFL matches at home to attract authorities of the NFF, to host national teams matches in the state”.
He explained that Gov Alia was committed to repositioning sports, especially football through his policies and programmes that would attract the youths, to venture into it and avoid social vices, stressing that, “the peace and unity that football brings goes a long way, to fostering development”.
In his remarks, the Vice Chairman/CEO of Lobi Stats FC, Dominic Iorfa, who congratulated the former Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly on his well deserved appointment as Youth and Sports Commissioner, expressed optimism that his timely inspection tour of the stadia, would go a long way in addressing some of the issues that were hindering Lobi Stars from playing their home NPFL matches in Makurdi.
Iorfa assured the commissioner of his loyalty and support to enable him succeed in the task ahead.
