A 72-year-old man, Moughkela Bako of Tse-Daagema, Utange, Ankyoov in Ikyogbajir Council Ward, Gwer Local Government Area of Benue State was recently manhandled by a group of young men following an accusation that he was responsible for the illness of a 41-year old man, Terungwa Igbakua, who has been sick for more than two years.
The Voice gathered that on that ill fateful day, a group of young men led by Mr. Terna Antyo, allegedly arrested Bako, saying he was the one behind Igbakua’s sickness which they said has defied all forms of cure.
According to sources, Bako, who is the head of the community, has over time been accused of killings, witch-hunting and destruction of lives due to his alleged engagement in witchcraft.
The sources added that, the group got hold of Bako, tied him, then set him up and hung him above fire, roasting him.
The Voice further gathered that the District Head of Ikyogbajir, Chief Cosmos Mfe, who was highly against the evil act, was however unable to calm down the situation.
While this was going on, The Voice further learned that Abunya, Bako’s son, who could not withstand the situation, rushed to the Aliade police station to report.
However, when the police arrived the scene, the perpetrators all ran away while the victim was rushed to General Hospital Aliade for treatment.
Reacting to the incident, the Divisional Police Officer of Aliade, SP Samuel Igba maintained that, the police are out to arrest the accused persons for proper investigation and necessary action.
