A professor of Theatre Arts and former Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin, Prof. Shamsudeen Amali, has commended the Federal Government of Nigeria for citing the Federal University of Health Sciences Otukpo (FUHSO), in his country home.
Interacting with The Voice in Otukpo, on Wednesday, a confidant of the Idoma-born professor, Dr Umar Ajape, said Amali, gave the commendation while receiving a FG delegation that paid him a courtesy visit at his Upu-Otukpo residence recently.
According to Ajape, Amali, stated that “one of the greatest thing to have ever happened to him and his people is the establishment of the institution in Otukpo Local Government of Benue State.” He stressed that without the magnanimity of the federal government, it would not have been possible.
The confidant quoted his friend as specifically, eulogizing President Muhammadu Buhari, the Minister of Education Mallam Adamu Adamu, Senator David Mark, Arc. Sonny Echono and a host of others for their roles in the establishment of the university.
He added that, the university don, who noted that with the coming of FUHSO, the economic, academic and medical lives of his people would never be the same again, advised them to make judicious use of the edifice.
It was learnt that while speaking, the delegation led by Mallam Adamu, said they were in Otukpo for the ground-breaking of FUHSO at the permanent site at Akwete-Akpa and felt it necessary to pay him homage as one of the leading lights in the Nigerian academic industry.
Adamu, noted that the “Federal University of Health Sciences Otukpo being the first of its kind in Nigeria, the government is passionate about its success and will give it the necessary attention it deserves.”
The Voice gathered that those on the entourage included the Executive Secretary, Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Arc. Sonny Echono, former Vice Chancellor, University of Jos, Prof. Ochapa Onazi, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Registrar, Prof. Is’haq Oloyede among others.
