An Amazon according to the Oxford English Dictionary is a strong and brave woman that is out to live her dreams no matter the challenges she faces.
The Amazon. Com International which is an American multinational technology company that focuses on e-commerce, digital streaming and artificial intelligence etc founded and managed by Jeff Bezos since 5th July 2017, in Bellevue, Washington United States is aimed at easing the plight of women.
It is a non governmental organization which is not a feminist movement against the male gender, but an organization designed to help younger women to achieve their desired life style by investing in any of the packages Amazon offers to enhance their level of financial sustainability.
The Amazon project sponsored by the Save 1Million Women, is made up of individuals from different courses of life including professors, doctors, lawyers, accountants, Engineers, business women, full time house wives. This means every woman with a financial standing can be part of it.
Women around the world, particularly Africa and Nigeria face lots of hardship and biased treatment every day in terms of selected jobs, lack of financial freedom, impact of COVID-19 etc, in addition to the struggle to cope with the compulsory womanly needs of child bearing, inconveniences of time and ability to perform certain tasks and still take care of the family due to the female nature, customs and cultural limitations among others.
The project is targeted at giving 10 million African women a comfortable life style, the satisfaction to drive cars that suit their gender, to go on vacation in exotic places in the world and to encourage them to become assets to their husbands and families but not liabilities and also engaged in “Feed the Family Project” which enable them to share food items to the less privileged every Christmas season.
The first launch of the Amazon Project was held at Kimbis Hotel Makurdi, Benue state among other states of the federation, with the aim of creating awareness and to teach Benue women on how to connect to some financial channels by leverage income, which is the power to earn more money while working less by connecting or recommending products.
Mrs Abigail Asunda aka Cash Flow Queen, an Amazon ambassador who declared the launch open some months ago, explained that the Amazon Project was not a feminist movement against the male gender but a programme designed to help younger women to achieve financial freedom through the connected revolution.
Mrs Asunda said, their main objective was to teach Benue women on have to connect to some financial channels by leverage income, i.e to earn more and more while working less.
She explained that due to the economic recession the nation is experiencing, it was necessary for the women to engage in businesses that will provide passive income that will enable them enjoy holistic wealth that covers time, health and financial freedom and will continue to generate income even after years of no active service.
The shift in economy and lack of jobs to the substitution of human skills to computerized services like POS, ATM, Washing Machines etc which have taken jobs away from people. She also gave example of individuals like Olusegun Obasajo, Jeff Bezos, Bernard Arnault among other rich men in the world who are enjoying and would continue to enjoy passive income all their lives.
The nonchalant attitude and misplaced priorities of the National Assembly towards alleviating the hunger and other challenges in the country, by approving billions of money for the importation of COVID-19 vaccines at the expense of so much difficulty and suffering is another issue she mentioned.
She lamented that people are hungry, there are no jobs, things are difficult and the only thing the president will approve money for is the COVID-19 vaccine. It’s that the most important problem in our country right now.
The programme which is also aimed at increasing the self esteem of the woman, turning her to an asset, giving her choices, providing long stability for herself and the extended family, giving her protection in times of uncertainty, molding her into a role model and enabling her time freedom, will help to minimize so many abuses women go through.
Benue women are advised to take advantage of the opportunity the Amazon Project have presented to liberate the women in the state from poverty.
