National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Dr Iyorchia Ayu, on Thursday expressed disappointment with the delay by President Muhammadu Buhari in signing the new Electoral Act into law. According to him, the action is part of plans by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to rig the 2023 general election.
“The delay in signing the new Electoral Act is part of the rigging process the APC government is planning,” Ayu stated.
Dr Ayu, who spoke in Jos, the Plateau state capital, assured Nigerians that PDP shall take over power from the APC at all levels of governance. He expressed sadness that APC administration have failed Nigerians.
Sen. Ayu was in Jos receive 23,000 members of the APC into PDP fold.
“APC is not an organised political party, that is why they cannot solve problems of Nigerians for the seven years of their leadership. That is why there is hunger everywhere.
“The hike in foodstuffs, lack of petrol and increase in pump price is something to worry about,” he stated.
The PDP National Chairman received the former Plateau state Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Latep Dabang among several others during a mega rally, preparatory for the Saturday by-election holding in Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency.
Ayu described the mass movement of APC stalwarts into PDP as a journey back home. “They are not decampees; they are returning back to where they belong,” he noted.
He said “the 23,000 people we received today are among the 50,000 PDP members who had left PDP in anger to other political parties, they didn’t find peace there, and are back home.”
It will be recalled that three weeks ago 12,000 APC members were said to have defected to the PDP in the state.
PDP national chairman also urged leaders of the party in Plateau state; Sen. Jonah Jang and Gen. Jeremiah Useni to unite, so that they can attract more people who left the PDP to return.
Ayu worried that Plateau citizens haven’t got peace since the administration of the APC came on board six years ago. “Plateau state has become a killing field, our farms are no go areas due to killers,” he lamented.
Speaking shortly after he was formally welcomed back into PDP, the Dabang apologised for his actions against the PDP in the past, and pleaded for forgiveness. He pledged to use his political connection to mobilise more people into PDP.
