The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Mr Solomon Akwashiki winner  of Lafia Central Constituency,  Nasarawa State House of Assembly in the March 18, 2023 Governorship and State Assembly elections.

Announcing the results in Lafia on Thursday, the Returning Officer, and Professor Samaila Usman said Akwashiki scored 17861 votes to defeat his immediate opponent and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Babanlungu Ahmed who got 17113 votes.

“Based on these results, Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki of the SDP who scored 17861 having certified the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” he said.

Meanwhile, some agents of political parties who participated in the election including the PDP and APC declined to sign the result sheets.

The Voice reports that the collation of results of the election from Lafia Central of Nasarawa State Constituency was earlier declared in conclusive due to irregularities in computation of results arising from Ciroma and Gayam wards of  the Constituency.

INEC, however reconvened collation on Wednesday (March 22, 2023) and the results were finally declared on Thursday (March 23) with Hon. Akwashiki emerging the winner beating Babalungu of the PDP and the incumbent Angibi of the APC.
