Gunmen suspected to be bandits
have killed one student, injured another and kidnapped several others, including lecturers in an attack on Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria, Kaduna State.
The state Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan who disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday said the bandits invaded the staff quarters of the school on Thursday, shooting sporadically where two students were hit and sustained gunshot injuries.
Mr Aruwan said the students shot by the bandits “were identified as Ahmad Muhammad and Haruna Isyaku Duniya.
“They were rushed to the hospital for medical attention. Sadly, Ahmad Muhammad succumbed to his wounds and died early this morning. Haruna Isyaku Duniya is still receiving treatment.”
The commissioner further stated that two lecturers and about eight students were abducted from the institution during the attack.
He said that Governor Nasir El-Rufai has expressed sadness over the incident and prayed for the repose of the soul of the student killed and sent condolences to his family while wishing the injured student speedy recovery.
The commissioner noted that senior government officials and security agencies are currently conducting security assessments and interfacing with the management and students of the institution, even as he promised to update the public on further developments.
