The Vice Chancellor of the Benue State University, Prof. Tor Iorapuu has charged the fresh students of the undergraduate programme of the College of Education, Oju to imbibe the spirit of self discipline, which he described as key to their ultimate desire to earn the degree of the university.
A statement by the Director of Public Relations of the college, Emma Lawrence and made available to The Voice on Saturday says the VC was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic, Prof. Terver Ubwa at the 4th Matriculation Ceremony on Thursday. He said that self discipline has the capacity to propel the student, to act positively in areas such as being studious, attainment of 75% attendance at lectures, semester registration of courses and timely payment of user charges.
The VC maintained that in the end, only those found worthy in character and learning shall earn the degree of the university.
To this end, he admonished the matriculating students to steer clear of the anti-social behaviours such as cultism, drug abuse, bullying, indecent dressing, as well as examination malpractices.
Earlier, the Provost of the College, Dr Sunday Edo thanked the management of the Benue State University for their concerted effort that culminated in mounting the degree programme in the college in affiliated status.
Dr Edo assured the university that the college will continue to work assiduously to ensure quality and maintain the Benue State University standard of academic excellence.
The provost equally requested the university to approve more programmes, in addition to the five being currently ran in the college as he maintained that the institution has sufficient qualified man power for the purpose.
The Voice learnt that the high point of the ceremony was the presentation of the matriculating students by the Dean, Faculty of Education of the Benue State University, Prof. David Aboho on whom the College Registrar, Dr Martins Igbudu administered the oath of matriculation.
