Benue approves N1.186b for CAN, Volunteer Guard, others

Benue State government has approved the sum of one billion, one hundred and eighty six million naira (1.186,000,000) for the execution of some projects in the state.

Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Michael Inalegwu, who briefed journalists shortly after the state Executive Council meeting on Tuesday evening disclosed that council  approved the sum of 170 million naira for the building of the state Secretariat of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Benue State.

The commissioner said the approval was necessary since the state was dedicated to God. According to him, “a befitting secretariat for the body of Christ is not out of place.”

Council also approved the sum of 99 million naira for the take-off of Benue State Community Volunteer Guard. Inalegwu explained that the amount will take care of the logistics needs of the volunteer guards.

He disclosed that their operation will help in securing the state to enable farmers engage in farming activities without molestation.

He pointed out that each local government area will have 20 personnel each in the first phase, stating that before the end of January, 2023 there would be adequate personnel in the local areas to protect the people, as more personnel would be trained

There was also an approval for the construction of a 30 kilometres road linking Tomataar-Tomanyiin-Iordee. Inalegwu, while explaining the importance of the road, said the construction of the road will boost economic activities and enhance quick response from security operatives. He put the cost of the road at 917 million naira.

Council equally directed that all political appointees and other senior government functionaries, who are not on essential duties to move to their respective local government to ensure that the remaining days for voters registration are properly utilized, in order for the state to have more eligible voters.
