Benue State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Mrs Mimi Adzakpe-Orubibi as the Chairman, Benue Internal Revenue Service (BIRS).
The House made the confirmation during its Tuesday’s plenary in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
Moving a motion for the confirmation of the nominee, Mr Tertsea Gbiseh (Kwande East-PDP) said the governor’s nominee, Mrs Adzakpe-Orubibi is a worthy ambassador of the state and she has adequate experience to redouble the internal revenue generation of Benue State.
“She have track records to perform effectively, having served as the Chairman of the service from 2015 to 2018 and resigned voluntarily to acquire more knowledge and wisdom in tax administration,” Gbiseh stated.
Mr Gbiseh, who appealed to the House to allow the nominee take a bow and leave, having served the state meritoriously in the same position moved that, the House should confirm her nomination.
Mrs Agnes Uloko (Ado-PDP) seconded the motion, describing Mrs Adzakpe-Orubibi as a competent person to handle the position, at the moment the state is in great need of finances to embark on developmental projects, payment of salaries and other needs of government.
Earlier, the Speaker of the House, Mr Titus Uba read a memo from the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Anthony Ijohor, SAN, asking the House to confirm the nominee.
Mr Uba said when the nominee was the Chairman of BIRS, more revenue accrued to the state government coffers, leading to greater development of the state.
“The nominee has garnered more experience after she left as Chairman of the service in 2018. She will now do better as Chairman, by increasing the internal revenue generation of the state,” he stated.
In a chat with newsmen after the confirmation, Mrs Adzakpe-Orubibi assured that, she would block all revenue leakages, as well as work effectively to solve the menace of double taxation and other issues relating to the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state.
Mrs Adzakpe-Orubibi thanked Governor Samuel Ortom for finding her worthy for the job and the honourable members of the House for confirming her.
