Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has approved Fridays as work-free days beginning from Friday, November 11, 2022 to Friday, January 27, 2023 to enable civil servants harvest their farm produce.
The governor stated this in a circular titled: “Declaration of work-free days for public servants in Benue State to harvest their crops to enhance agricultural value chain,” issued by Samuel I. Udeh, Covering Permanent Secretary, for Head of Service.
The circular read in part: “You will recall our earlier circular No. S/ADM/CIR/15/IV/923 of 1st June, 2022 in which His Excellency, the executive Governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom approved Thursdays and Fridays in the month of June and July, 2022 as work-free days to enable civil servants engage in farming activities; to which it is believed was optimally utilized during the period.”
According to the circular, the decision was to enable public servants take advantage of the state’s agricultural value chain in the face of dwindling economy.
It, however, stated that those on essential services, the judiciary and Ministry of Justice are exempted from the work-free days.
