Benue State government is to train 100 youths in fashion designing to enable them harness opportunities in the fashion sector.
Governor Samuel Ortom announced this Tuesday at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi during a courtesy call on him by a group known as Benue Fashion Designers’ Network.
The governor commended Jamal Mshelia and his team of Benue Designers Network for adding value to the state. “This is what we expect our youths to be doing and not going into cultism. You can not make progress by engaging in social vice. The market is huge when it comes to fashion,” he said.
He said globally, fashion remains one industry that has a lot of opportunities, stating that the value chain is massive as it creates wealth and other opportunities.
“People should be industrious, creative. They should find themselves doing one or two things that add value to development. Whatever you find yourself doing, do it well and be committed; and you will have good results.
“As a government, to complement your efforts, among your group, identify 100 youths, male and female that you will train. The government of Benue State will bear the cost of the training. I believe it will add value to our youths and what you are doing. At the end of the training, government will also provide the basic equipments so that the trainees can start up.
“Thank you for making us proud. We look forward to seeing you at national and international stage with laurels,” Ortom stated.
The leader of Benue Fashion Designers’ Network, Jamal Mshelia in a remark, lauded the governor for always creating the enabling environment for youths in the state to thrive. “You have supported the youths immensely. Thank you sir,” he said.
Mshelia disclosed that the Benue Designers’ Network is known for bringing the Benue youths together and trying to tell the Benue story through fashion designing.
Governor Ortom was honoured as a fashion icon by the group for promoting Benue fabrics.
