The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State was united for the betterment of the state.
He disclosed this Monday at Oju during the official flag-off of Sen. Abba Moro’s re-election campaign.
Governor Ortom thanked the people for their patience and commitment to the PDP and noted that, “PDP is serious in Benue State and poised to win all her elections in the state. We are committed to the wellbeing of the state. We will never succumb to any blackmail.”
He acknowledged the unity of the party in the state. “We are one in PDP and working for the same purpose. We will work to ensure that Benue State get all that is rightfully hers,” he stated.
The governor gave assurances that his administration will do its best to ensure that it delivers on its campaign promises, stating that paucity of funds has greatly slowed down some projects.
Speaking during the event, Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District (Zone C), Sen. Moro explained that PDP has the spirit of uniting the people. “You know that Zone C and Benue State is PDP. No matter what, Benue State is PDP,” he said.
He appealed to the people not to be deceived by any slogan of change as the APC has inflicted pains on Nigerians as a result of their maladministration.
Sen. Moro, who listed his achievements to include sponsoring of 13 bills, giving of scholarships to students among others, assured the people of Oju and Obi that he will ensure that the Otukpo-Obi-Oju road was constructed while promising that he will continue to stand with the people. “You are the custodian of our mandate. We must do everything to protect your interest,” he said.
The former Minister of Interior thanked the governor for supporting the party in the state. “Governor Ortom is a very committed member of our party. He is the leader of PDP in Benue State,” he stated.
He emphasized that during the inauguration of his campaign team, he never made any reference to the National Chairman of the PDP, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu as being widely insinuated in some quarters.
On his part, the Senator representing Benue North East, Gabriel Suswam described Moro as a grassroot politician, stating he is a voice that can not be ignored in the National Assembly. He explained that it takes someone in the capacity of Moro to attract development to Zone C.
The former governor of Benue State said PDP has done a lot for the Igede nation and the people of Zone C and appealed for support to ensure that PDP wins all her elections from bottom to top.
Deputy governorship candidate of the PDP, John Ngbede in a remark, on behalf of the governorship candidate, Titus Uba, urged the people not to listen to any rumour being peddled by the opposition in the state concerning the governorship candidate.
He described Sens. Moro, Suswam and Governor Ortom as a balanced team. Ngbede called on the people to ensure that they go out enmass to collect their Permanent Voters Card.
Acting state Chairman of PDP, Isaac Mffo, who presented party flags to National Assembly candidates from Zone C maintained that the party was one large family. “We don’t segregate. I urge you to work hard for the victory of the party. If it is not your turn today, tomorrow maybe yours,” he maintained.
Mffo stressed the need for candidates of the party to work hand in hand with those who contested with them for the victory of the party.
Chairman of the occasion, Elder Christopher Aba, Director of Abba Moro’s campaign Organization, Adakole Elijah, Oju Local Government Chairman, Evelyn Okwe all separately stressed the need to re-elect Sen. Moro because of his sterling performance.
