Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has said that Ushongo and Benue people have no reason being in the All Progressive Congress (APC), as the party has not done anything good for the state. He noted that they have rather brought pain and suffering on the people of the state.
The governor stated this at Ge-Mbagwa Primary School, Lessel, Ushongo Local Government during the decamping ceremony of thousands of APC members into the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
He said the step that the defectors have taken shows that Benue State remained united to defend the rights of the people.
According to him, “we are not going to accept domination. For you to have appointments in this country today, you must belong to a particular ethnic group. This is unacceptable.”
“Politics is said to be a game of interest. What is the interest of Ushongo and Benue people in the APC today,” he said.
The governor expressed appreciation to those who have decided to join the PDP and assured them that they have come to the right place where they will get dividends of democracy.
The Senator representing Benue North East Senatorial District, Gabriel Suswam said the PDP, as a party has done a lot for the people of Ushongo. He called on others in the zone who are still in the APC to join the PDP and support the Governor to take the state to higher heights.
The PDP state Chairman, John Ngbede commended the defectors for taking the right step by joining the PDP. He assured them of equal opportunities in the party.
Chairman, Central Planning Committee, Hyacinth Nyakuma commended the governor for good governance and other development efforts in the state. He stated that Ushongo people have decided to join him in the PDP, in order to support him for the overall interest of the state.
