The Benue State Police Command, recently arraigned three (3) persons, Terkuma Iorunde, 23; Lubem Akusu, 20; and Kwaghgbo Ndemen, 20, all of Tomahaa community in Kwande Local Government Area, before a Makurdi Chief Magistrate Court, charged with criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt and membership of unlawful society to wit Black Axe.
The Prosecuting Police Officer, ASP Hyacinth Gbakor told the court that on 29 December, 2020, one Christopher Yaji of Usambe, Ikyurav-Ya went to the police station in Adikpo and reported that on 25 December, 2020, his brother’s son, one Atem Tarwanger of the same address went to a night party at Tomahaa village market square and was attacked by Terkuma Iorunde, Lubem Akusu and Kwaghbo Ndemen, who criminally conspired among themselves and forcefully used an axe and gave him a deep cut on the head for no reason.
Prosecution stated that during police investigation, the (3) three suspects were arrested and two axes were recovered at the scene of the crime. The suspects confessed to be members of the Black Skull confraternity, initiated by one Anyamtor (surname unknown) of Jato- Aka now at large.
When the case came up for mention, no plea was taken for want of jurisdiction while prosecution said investigation was still in progress and asked for another date.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Vincent Kor Esq ordered that the suspects be remanded at the Makurdi Correctional Centre and adjourned the case to 22 March, 2021 for further mention.
