By Sunday Iduh

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has said the establishment of the Benue State Community Volunteer Guards was a clear message to the Jihadists. He lamented that if the Federal Government had heeded his calls, the country would not have been in the precarious situation it is in today.

Governor Ortom stated this Saturday night at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi during the Cocktail Party/Command Performance in honour of Most Rev. Dr Daniel C. Okoh, National President of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

The governor, who gave assurances that attacks on the state will soon become a thing of the past, reiterated his commitment to protecting lives and property of the people.

He explained that the collaborative effort of the church and government in prayers to God has been working wonders for the state.

“God has been working wonders in our lives. I believe that my life is not in anybody’s hand. It is God that has been protecting me and the state. I remain Committed to the partnership with the church

Earlier, in a remark, CAN President, Dr Okoh describe Governor Ortom as a man of uncommon courage, who has stood for his state and Nigeria.

He commended the governor for his unflinching support to the church of God, especially his commitment and personal relationship with God.

Dr Okoh pointed out that his visit to the state was by providence. “Benue is the first state I am visiting after my inauguration. Thank you for all that you are doing for the body of Christ. Benue is known for hospitality right from time inmemorial,” he stated.

The CAN Vice President, Rev. Panya Baba and CAN Secretary, Barr Joseph Daramola among others accompanied the CAN President on the visit.
