The Executive Chairman, Benue State Internal Revenue Service BIRS, Mrs Mimi Adzape-Orubibi, has distributed brand new desktop computers, laptops, printers, surge extensions, UPS, chairs and tables to Area Tax Offices of the service across the state to enhance their efficiency.

According to a statement by Mrs Adzape-Orubibi’s Media Assistant, Mr Jacob Suswam, who made the distribution on behalf of her on Tuesday at the headquarters of the service, the BIRS Head of ICT, Mr Raymond Gagaor, said the essence of the distribution was to improve on the Executive Chairman’s digital strides to automate all tax processes, tax procedures, tax administration and tax enforcement, in line with Joint Tax Board (JTB’s) directive for the automation of all tax processes by 2025.

The statement read in part: “Mr Gagaor further charged the Area Tax Officers to ensure that the items are properly handled by the users, adding that the computers will not only lessen their burden of taking office work to roadside computer shops for typing but will also make their offices more befitting of an Area Tax office.

“Responding, the  Area Tax Officers (ATOs) expressed satisfaction with the distribution and as well commended the Chairman for the purchase of the items, saying it shall go a long way in making their operations easier to conform with the digitalisation process.

“It will be recalled that, the Chairman upon her assumption of office in November last year had expressed shock that all the area tax offices of the service had no computers and were resorting to the use of roadside computer shops for typing of official documents.

“Mrs Adzape-Orubibi has also promised to network all the offices with Internet facilities to reduce the high use of paper within the organisation.”
