The Benue State Taskforce on illegal roadblocks in collaboration with Benue Internal Revenue Services, BIRS has arrested nine suspected persons and dismantled an illegal checkpoint at the North Bank area of Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
Addressing newsmen after the operation yesterday in Makurdi, the Chairman of the Task Force team, CSP George Iorbee (rtd), said the team comprising Police and Civil defence personnel had first arrested three hoodlums at a checkpoint that was earlier dismantled, however on their way back, the team met much resistance where they discovered that the illegal checkpoint had already been remounted, the team immediately retreated and reinforced with army officers who later arrested six more of the hoodlums.

He said the arrested hoodlums have been handed over to the police for prosecution, adding that the Taskforce team is aimed at eradicating illegal checkpoints and sanitizing the state of multiple extortion of motorists.
He noted that some commuters along the route expressed satisfaction and appreciated the state government for the operation and appealed that the operation should be sustained to permanently send the illegal checkpoint operators into extinction.
