The host of the ongoing 20th National Sports Festival, Edo state is contemplating withdrawing from the games due to lack of federal government’s support to ensure proper arrangements for Edo 2020.
According to the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Comrade Ebomhiana Musa, the state government is threatening shutting down the ongoing sports festival by 12 noon Thursday 8, 2021 for lack of funds.
The Deputy Governor, Philips Shaibu who is also the Chairman, Local Organising Committee (LOC) had earlier, before the commencement of the games, complained of paucity of funds stating that state government was yet to receive financial support from the federal government, but will continue to forge ahead in debt.
It is obviously clear that the financial burden is too heavy on the state as the games enters day six and the LOC, decided to ends the games abruptly.
If you recall, the Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbanjo’s absence at the opening ceremony could be linked to the federal government’s,s inability to support the host state financially.
