No fewer than Seven persons, including two lecturers from University of Mkar, Gboko were said to have lost their lives on Saturday evening, in a ghastly motor accident around Gbatse community, along Ugbema-Adikpo road in Ushongo local government area of Benue state.
Eyewitness account have it that the incidence occured at about 3pm and was caused by a trailer which ran into a stationary Toyota car with registration number MKD-300-NH, crushing seven occupants of the car to death.
It was gathered that the driver of the said trailer was trying to evade a police check-point but lost control and collided with the stationary vehicle.
It took the police and other spirited individuals over five hours to evacuate the corpses which were squeezed under the truck.
In a quick response to the unfortunate incident, the Executive Chairman of Ushongo local government, Hon. Asawa Joseph cut short his trip to attend a reception in honour of his Guma counterpart and state chairman of ALGON, Hon. Caleb Abba in Makurdi to rush to the scene of the accident.
Hon Asawa ordered for immediate evacuation of the corpses to Ostra Gum’s hospital in Ushongo.
Documents found at the scene of the accident identified two University of Mkar Lecturers in persons of Mr. Aleva Joshua of Mass Communication Department and Moses Tarnongo as victims of the accident.
A Zenith ATM Card found on one of the bodies also identified Adaa I. Blessing as one of the victims.
As at the time of filing this report, Police personnel stationed along Ugbema-Adikp road were in full control of the situation there.
