The Nasarawa State Commissioner for Information Culture and Tourism, Alhaji Yakubu Lawal has regained freedom after spending five days in the hands of kidnappers.
The Voice earlier reported that Alhaji Lawal was kidnapped by unknown gunmen last Monday at about 9:45 pm in Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the State, DSP Ramhan Nansel confirmed the release of the commissioner in a telephone interview with The Voice on Friday in Lafia.
According to him, the development followed sustained pressure of combined security operatives in the state that led to his release by the kidnappers.
“The abducted Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Yakubu Lawal was released at about 1800 hours today due to sustained pressure from the combined security agencies deployed to rescue him unhurt.
“He has been taken to the hospital for medical examination after which he will be reunited with his family,” Nansel said.
The Police spokesperson, however, noted that security surveillance had been intensified in Nasarawa Eggon LGA, following increased insecurity in the area.
