Six persons, including a community leader awaiting coronation were Monday night killed by yet to be identified gunmen men in Plateau state.
The incident occurred in Wereng, a village in Riyom local government area of northern Plateau state.
A former Council chairman of Riyom local government Hon Emmanuel Jugul, in a telephone interview Tuesday morning, said others victims of the attack have been hospitalized.
“Yes a community leader of Wereng who awaiting installation is one of the victim of the attack, fives others were killed.” The former Council boss informed.
When contacted via telephone interview, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Plateau state police command ASP Gabriel Ogaba, cut our conversation after a short talk, and said was in court hall.
“I’m in the court.” ASP Gabriel informed our reporter via phone interview.
Brother to one of the victim Mr. Dapam Dalyop whose brother survived the attack, though with deep cuts told The Voice Correspondent in Jos, that the survivors are been treated at the Vom Christian hospital in Jos south local government area.
According to him the entire Wereng community and neighboring villages have been thrown into mourning; Dapam noted with regret that his kinsmen are currently living in apprehension.
The killing of the Wereng village head is the second among community leaders killed within three weeks in Plateau state in recent times.
It will be recalled that a community leader was shot dead at Rasat village in forong district of Barkinladi local government area of the State; the said community leader was buried last Wednesday.
