Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi (FAUM) HRM, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Sulu-Gamabari, the Emir of Ilorin has commended the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari, aimed at bringing monumental transformation to Nigeria. He gave the commendation at the recent 23rd-25th combined convocation of the university in Makurdi.
The chancellor also commended the Pro Chancellor/Chairman Governing Council of the Institution, Prof. Alhassan Abba and the Management of the University for the outstanding development the school has recorded under their watch.
“While commending the feat so far attained by the University in its 33 years of existence, I must not fail to stress the need for us to redouble our efforts as the society is looking up to the university to deliver on the results of cutting edge technologies, scientific innovations and research breakthroughs in agriculture,” he said.
In his address, Pro Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council of the Institution, Prof. Alkasum Abba, while congratulating the graduands, charged them to make good use of the knowledge they have acquired.
“The knowledge you have acquired should therefore trigger your creative and innovative abilities to stimulate agricultural production and entrepreneurships for enhanced economic growth in line with Mr President’s agricultural and economic transformation programme,” Prof. Abba said.
He called on all stakeholders of the university to ensure peace, stability and sustained partnerships for rapid growth and development of the University.
Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Richard Kimbir, said he is still on course with his mission statement for the school which is to ‘Reposition the University for National and Global competitiveness.’ He said this can be seen with the many infrastructural strides his administration has undertaken as well as up to date course accreditation. He said currently, the National University Commission (NUC) has given full accreditation to twenty one courses of the university.
“Mr President, Sir, even as the university is jubilant of the massive interventions from the Federal Government in infrastructural development, we still request for more, especially an access road to the university,” he appealed.
The VC thanked the President for his support, and appreciated NUC, TETFUND, MDAs and other corporate bodies for the success recorded so far. He also thanked the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, for his hospitality as well as the honorees for accepting to be part of the university.
