Challenging my academic qualifications is digressive tactic by APC – Uba

By Matthew Ajai-Kume

Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the state, Titus Uba has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) challenge of his academic qualifications is simply a digressive tactic.

A statement made available to newsmen Tuesday by Uba’s Chief Press Secretary, Wuese Orshi stated that: “Our attention has been drawn to a malicious publication on social media by merchants of the All Progressives Congress, APC and their hirelings to the effect that the Benue State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Rt Hon Titus Uba doesn’t have certificates and did not submit same to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC; neither did he state it in form EC – 9 (affidavit of personal particulars of persons seeking election into the office of governor).”

The statement further said: “Ordinarily, we wouldn’t have dignified these mischief makers with a response but for the fact that a section of the reading public may be deceived by the diversionary strategy, we wish to state that the publication in question is false in its entirety, malicious and aimed at distracting our focus from our 2023 bid.”

According to the statement, Uba has no certificate issue as mischievously presented. He is a product of Mount Saint Michael’s Secondary School, Aliade, 1984 set where he obtained General Certificate of Education (GCE) O’Level, 1989 ND graduate of  Federal Polytechnic, Idah and 2004 HND graduate of Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi.

The statement maintained that, Uba also undertook a postgraduate course at the famous University of Agriculture Makurdi, now J.S Tarka University, and is studying for a master’s degree in the same institution.

“It is instructive to note also that Rt Hon Titus Uba is a COREN certified engineer. One then wonders whether COREN certifies people without certificates to practice engineering in Nigeria,” The statement partly read

The statement further read: “We wish to inform the public also that Rt Hon Titus Uba had used the same certificates being denigrated today to contest and win election on two different occasions where he was twice elected as Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly.
The same documents were submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission but nobody raised eyebrows.

“It is also not true that the PDP gubernatorial candidate did not fill form EC9 indicating his qualifications as available records with INEC can attest to that.

“It is clear that these misguided elements from the All Progressives Congress who are running helter skelter to save their neck from the avalanche of litigations instituted by its members arising from their governorship primary election.

“They are merely diverting the attention of the public from their inability to put their house in order. Rather than bury their heads in shame or take the path of honour by telling their misled supporters the truth that their party is facing the risk of not fielding a gubernatorial candidate for the 2023 election, they have resorted to blackmail, mudslinging and falsehood against Rt. Hon. Titus Uba, in a desperate attempt to hoodwink undiscerning members of the public to believe their hogwash,” the statement read.

The statement appealed to members of the public to disregard the misinformation as antics of the opposition aimed at tarnishing the hard earned reputation of Uba who by the grace of God, will again enjoy the trust of Benue people as the next Governor of Benue State.
