PLOT
Citation tells a story of a lady called Moremi who was a post graduate student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), she caught the attention of a lecturer because she was smart. She got into a relationship with a guy who was also a student of OAU, her life was going pretty well. She was practically a good girl up until certain things started happening because of some decisions that she made and those decisions led to a situation she didn’t want to be in any way. It was a terrible situation to be in.
The main theme of this story centres on speaking up or better still, standing up for one’s self no matter who you are up against.
CASTING
My observations in this movie, points to the fact that the cinematography was top notch. It made me want to become a student of OAU and the casting was nice. Mixing of languages like French, Yoruba and English in the movie gave it a certain uniqueness.
Also, the story was good, but in the story telling, there was a little back and front like from present to past, the problem with this was that if you don’t pay close attention it will be easy for you to get lost in the movie.
STYLE
In the aspect of acting, Kunle Afolayan did a great job however, there was a flip-up in terms of technicality like when Joke held the phone and it was upside down, it actually trended on Twitter.
I feel Ini Edo’s character did not do well for me, may be it was the character or the performance. She fell a little out of place.
As for the costuming, lightening, and tone, the directing and acting were all on point as everything was well planned.
CONCLUSION
I would say it’s a very nice film. What do you expect? The movie was produced by one of Nigeria’s best. I rate the movie 8/10. So, I recommend it.
