The Chaplain of Saint Boniface’s Catholic Church at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) House chaplaincy, Makurdi, Rev. Fr Theophilus Hwande has consecrated the Benue State Council of NUJ, so as to end incessant deaths of chairmen.
Hwande said the deaths of two council chairmen of the union, within a span of three years, was a sad happening that should not be allowed to continue.
He made the remark recently while dedicating to God the NUJ Secretariat and members of the State Working Committee of the union and prayed God to end incessant deaths at the council.
The Cleric expressed concern over the demise of two chairmen of the Council, the late David Ukuma and Victoria Asher, within two years in succession, saying it was an indicated that God was speaking to living NUJ management and members to use their position as a point of service to humanity.
Responding on behalf of Benue NUJ, the Acting Chairman, Comrade Martins Kajo, appreciated Rev. Fr Hwande for promptly responding to the invitation and said, as humans, they were weighed down by the sudden deaths of their chairmen in quick succession.
Comrade Kajo however, said the prayers by Fr Hwande had strengthened their faith as God had taken over the affairs of the Council.
He expressed optimism that the council under his leadership would strive to make a positive impact within the remaining months in office and sued for cooperation from members.
