Benue State Commissioner of Education, Prof. Dennis Ityavyar, has cautioned students in the state to shun cultism as it has damaging consequences on their future.
The commissioner gave the caution when students under the aegis of Kunav Students Association recently paid him a visit in his office in Makurdi. He said, “cultism is a foolish thing, they could kill you in your last lap of academic studies and all the efforts put in will be a wasted one. Help bring others out of it.”
He tasked the students to rather “be of good behavior, avoid bad company to escape mishap. The security system in the country is bad.” He said, “your parents are proud of you, do not disappoint them.”
He also charged them to carry themselves with dignity and stop parading themselves as rascals in the name of students. “Do not be beggars under the disguise of students. Do not cheapen yourselves,” he said.
Prof. Ityavyar encouraged them to take their educational pursuit seriously and not get drowned in the activities of unionism “nobody is useless with a level of education.” He thanked the association for the visit and assured them that their challenges will be duly addressed.
Earlier, the National President of the Association, Benjamin Kange, who led the delegation appreciated the commissioner for his continuous support to the association and prayed God for opportunities for him to keep up the good work.
