The new Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Otukpo, John Adikwu, has called on residents of the division to work with the police in fighting crimes.

The DPO, who made the call Thursday while exchanging views with newsmen in his office, noted that it is only through collaboration between the people and the police that the fight against criminals and criminality in the society could be effective.

According to him, “The fight against crimes in the society should not be left in the hands of the police alone.

“For the fight to be effective, there should be collaboration between the police, the civilians and other sister agencies in this division.

“I therefore, call on the populace to be conscious of strangers in their communities and report suspicious movements to the police.

“As members of the community, you know one other more than the police; you know who is a criminal and who is not among you.

“We urge you to always volunteer information that will help us in tackling crimes.”

Superintendent Adikwu, promised to continue, from where his predecessor, Peter Okechukwu, stopped while warning criminals to steer clear of the division, saying a new sheriff is in town.

He cautioned youths of the area to shun all forms of social vices and advised parents to monitor activities of their wards.

“To my officers and men, you should be civic in your dealings with the public; law and due process should be followed in handling all cases,” he stated.
