From Esther Akaa, Lafia
The Catholic Bishop of Lafia Diocese, Most Rev. David Ajang, says Nigeria can achieve peace and unity if citizens tolerate one another, in spite of their religious and ethnic differences.
Bishop Ajang, who stated this on Sunday at St William’s Cathedral, while celebrating the solemnity of the Holy Trinity, said it was with understanding that Nigerians will tolerate one another, for peace to reign in the country.
According to him, the country was divided along religious and ethnic sentiments, calling on the people to rise above certain considerations that are capable of disintegrating the nation and preach peaceful coexistence for the unity of the country.
“Religion is dividing this country, whereas religion is what should unite us, We are certainly divided and we must learn from the unity of the Holy Trinity which is God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
“The Holy Trinity tells us that there are three persons in one God and that love should be a binding factor in our relationship with one another and the love must be genuine.
“We can never understand fully the true nature of God if we do not love our brother and sisters.
“Today is June 12, a day our country underwent chaos that has become a memorable day which we are celebrating today as democracy day.
“I, therefore, urge you to register and get your voters cards so that you can vote for people who will truly represent you,” Bishop Ajang said.
He, called on citizens to see strength in the diversity of the nation and strive to unite rather than divide for the peace and progress of the country.
