Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has flagged-off the sales of 13,000 bags of fertiliser to farmers for the 2024 dry season farming in the state.
Sule while performing the ceremony on Tuesday in Lafia, warned those handling the sales to be accountable, saying that those found wanting will will face consequences regardless of their status in the society.
According to him, a bag of the fertiliser would be sold to farmers at a subsidized rate of N12,000 only per bag against the N21,000 that it was bought by the state government to serve as a support to farmers in the state.
He noted that the gesture was in line with the state government’s commitment to foster partnerships and collaboration towards giving agriculture its pride of place.
“Those handling the sales of the 13,000 bags of fertiliser earmarked for this year’s dry season farming across the state should do their work with all sincerity because they would be held responsible for any abnormality in the exercise.
“We are selling the fertiliser at a subsidized rate of N12,000 per bag, but it sales for N21,000 per bag in the market. I, therefore, charge the beneficiaries to ensure the judicious use of the fertilizers to increase their yields and to boost food production in the state,” Governor Sule added.
The governor reassured that his administration will continue to support farmers inorder to boost agricultural production in the State.
He therefore, urged the people of the state to take advantage of the President Bola Tinubu Renewed Hope Agricultural Funds to enhance food security.
Also speaking, the Chairman, Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture, Hon Peter Akwe said that the distribution of the fertilisers would increase crop yields in 2024 and beyond.
He urged those involved in the sales to ensure that the fertilizer get to the target beneficiaries.
On his part, the State Chairman, All Farmers Association of Nigeria( AFAN) Mr Isaac Kigbu, commended Governor Sule for his untiring resolve to boost agriculture in the state.
He said “We applaud your dedication to maintain a peaceful environment conducive to farming activities and we look forward to continue in collaboration with your administration to address the challenges facing our sector.
“Your support is instrumental in empowering farmers, boosting agricultural productivity, and ultimately contributing to the overall development of nationalities.

He, therefore assured that the processes in the distribution and sales of the fertilizers will be adequately monitored in order to ensure that it’s get to the deserving farmers in the state.
Earlier , the State Commissioner for Agriculture,Hon Umar Dan’Akano, thanked the Governor for his relentless efforts towards ensuring that farmers are given the needed support to increase their yields.
He called on the farmers not to relent in their farming activities, and charged them to make good use of the fertilisers to ensure sufficient food production in the state.
