The Special Assistant to the Governor of Benue State on sports, veteran sport journalist Law possible Ediba has called on chairmen of the 23 local government councils in the state to support moves towards reviving sporting activities at the grassroots level.
Ediba who made the call when he visited the special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Elder Jerome Tor Shimbe in his office, sued for support and cooperation from the special Adviser and all the council Chairmen in order for grassroots sport in their areas to succeed.
“We would like you press on the local government Chairmen to put the issue of grassroots sport development in the front burner.
“We decided to make your office the first point of call because of your regular interaction with council Chairmen.
“The sports sector is dying for lack of activities at the grassroots where most of the talents are found”.
Responding, the special Adviser to the Governor on Bureau local government and the chieftaincy affairs Elder Torshimbe, congratulated Ediba on his appointment which he said was based on his integrity, commitment and contributions to sports development in the state and urged him to continue promoting youths in the state in line with Governor Ortom’s agenda.
The Adviser who assured of the Bureau’s support to sports in the state, said sports is health and so the youths should be encouraged to engage in sports for optimal development.
