The Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Nasarawa State has nullified the election of Engr Abdullahi Sule as governor of the state on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and returned the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Dr David Ombugadu as the winner.
The Voice earlier reported that Dr. Ombugadu had dragged Governor Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to court after his declaration as the winner of the March 18, 2023 governorship election in the state.
In a 4 -hour judgment virtually, delivered today, 2nd October, 2023 , chairman of the tribunal, Justice Ezekiel Ajayi declared Dr Ombugadu of the PDP as the lawful elected governor of the state in the election held on 18th March, 2023.
The decision was reached after the tribunal revoked what it deemed as irregularly collated votes that were stacked in favour of the APC candidate bringing down the tally of the APC candidate.
Justice Ajayi directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue a certificate of return to Emmanuel Ombugadu.
On his part, Council to the petitioner, Johnson Usman said Ombugadu has been recognised as the legitimately elected governor of the state.
Francis Orogu, the State PDP Chairman, who also spoke, characterised the verdict as a triumph for democracy and the people of the state.
