A Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), Advocacy for Quality Leadership and Health Awareness Foundation has blamed the federal government for the loss of innocent lives and property, during the #EndSARS protest in the country.
The National Coordinator of the NGO, Engr Anselm Ijebor stated this recently in an interaction with journalists in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.
According to him, the #EndSARS protest wouldn’t have escalated if the demands of the protesters were met by the federal governnment, adding that the attempt by government to muzzle the democratic rights of the protesting youth sparked off violence.
His words: “People must have the socio-political consciousness that the youth have the right to protest and make demands to reclaim the country. What happened during the #EndSARS protest is a signal that the federal government has failled the nation and must live to meet the yearnings, aspirations and desires of the people.
“Why the youths resorted to violent protest was as a result of the government in-ability to manage the situation. It is either we fix Nigeria or we die trying to have a better country for generations yet unborn.
“The mood should be that we want to reclaim the country, the country belongs to us. All resources in the country belong to us and not a few rich.”
“An average Nigerian should be inspired by those that died during the protest, those martyrs that laid down their lives and the desire ultimately is to transform Nigeria into a socialist state,” Engr Ijebor stated.
He concluded that dialogue and nagotiation were veritable instruments of peace, adding that, change should be re-defined to reflect the emerging circumstances in the country, even as he decried the high level of banditry, kidnapping and robbery cases in the country.
