Executive Secretary, Benue State Science and Technical Education Board (STEB), Engr Samuel Kwende, has congratulated all winners of the different categories in the just concluded All Science and Technical Colleges Games (STECOGA) tagged Gbajimba 2021. He commended participants for demonstrating a spirit of sportsmanship by being peaceful throughout the event.
He gave the commendation at the closing/prize giving day of the sports competition at Government Science Technical College, Gbajimba in Guma Local Government Area, Benue State.
He also charged those who lost in their games to continue practicing as the future presents more opportunities for wins.
Engr Kwende, appreciated the Governor, Samuel Ortom for the support he has giving the board which accounts for the realisation and success of the event. He also thanked the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Dennis Ityavyar for the graceful supervision and technical support given to the board.
The annual event organised by STEB was flagged off on 8 March, 2021 by Governor Samuel Ortom and rounded up with the football finals for the male category between GSTC, Gbajimba and GSTC, Garagboul.
The sports competition had 11 schools participating which include: Government Science & Technical College (GSTC), Garagboul; and those in Anyiin, Otukpa, Ikyogen and Gbajimba. Others are Usar Science and Technical College, Adikpo; GSS Anyiaase; St Jude Science & Technical College,Tse Mker; MSTC, Lessel; Special Senior Science Secondary School, Makurdi; and St Joseph Science & Technical College, Makurdi.
Host school for the STECOGA, GSTC, Gbajimba clinged the trophy, emerging winners in both the male and female football tournaments.
Meanwhile, Government Science School, Anyiaase emerged the overall best in the competition with a total of 21 medals, GSTC, Garagboul came 2nd with a total of 20 medals and GSTC, Gbajimba came 3rd with 15 medals. Principal, GSTC Ikyogen, Mr Waka Terkula was also awarded the best principal of Science & Technical Colleges in the state.
In separate reactions, Game Master and Principal, GSS Anyiaase, Patrick Terna and Kwaghzer Isaac respectively, expressed joy at the performance of their school, saying they will not relax but aspire for greater opportunities.
The competition featured both field and track events: Football, short put, discourse, javelin, volley ball, handball, different lengths of track events.
