The Niger State House of Assembly has called on the executive arm of government to establish a special facility dedicated for the treatment of victims of banditry and kidnapping.
The call was contained in a motion moved by Joseph Haruna Duza, member representing Munya Constituency during Tuesday’s plenary.
Hon. Duza that section 17 (3) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended provides that “the state shall direct its policy towards ensuring that there are adequate medical and heath facilities for all”
He explained that victims of banditry and kidnapping go through so much physical, psychological, mental and emotional trauma as a result of contact and attacks with the bandits.
The lawmaker said victims of banditry need swift medical attention as well as professional counselling in a quiet and secure environment to help the them feel less stressed.
He lamented that hospitals in Niger State are overstretched with the teeming population patronizing them, hence the need for special hospital facility for the victims.
The Voice reports that the House during plenary received a report from the Niger State Fiscal Responsibility Commission(NSFRC) on the year 2022 Annual Report and Audited Accounts for the year ended 31st December,2022 presented by the Majority Leader, Hon. Musa Idris Vasta and but referred to committee on Finance by the Speaker, Barr. AbdulMalik Mohammed Sarkin Daji, who presided over the plenary to report back to the House on the 15th of November 2023.
