FG to rebuild agric processing centres in Nasarawa

The Federal Government’s Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP), being implemented in Nasarawa State, in collaboration with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is to provide more funds for the rebuilding of agricultural processing centres in the state.

The Head, Market Enterprise Development Unit of VCDP, Hajiya Fatima Buhari, disclosed this during
a three-day appraisal visit to Nasarawa State to assess the level of implementation of the programme in the state.

Speaking last Friday in Doma, Doma Local Government Area (LGA) of the state after inspecting market stores, solar-powered borehole and rice processing centre, Hajiya Buhari expressed satisfaction at the level of implementation of the programme.

She maintained that the federal government was working out modalities to rebuild some of the agricultural processing centres in the state, stressing that “We are here to assess the level of implementation of the support mission for our beneficiaries.”

“The visit is to check on our project work that we have done and how they are being maintained.

“So, far the assessment is very good. The beneficiaries are trying in the maintenance and we  might likely come again to help rebuild some of the processing centres,” she said.

Also speaking, the State Programme Coordinator, Dr Eunice Adgidzi said the project was aimed at improving the livelihood of small-scale rice farmers in the locality and the state at large.

She collaborated that the visit was aimed at assessing the level of implementation, identifying gaps and improving on them.

“The essence of the visit to assess the level of implementation, especially under her component is to see what has been happening, identifying the gaps and how we can make it even better,” she said.
