Fire razes 2 residences in Otukpo

A fire incident has occurred at numbers 61 and 62 Akpa Street Otukpo, Benue State, gutting about seven rooms and a four bedroom flat.

Speaking  to The Voice, on Saturday, some residents of the affected houses, including Ochekwu Ughana, Sunday Ughana, Ramat Zakari and Amina Yahaya, who said the fire started Friday night, all lamented the losses incurred.

They stated that with the development, they had been rendered homeless, as nothing was recovered and called on good spirited individuals and the government to come to their aid.

Also speaking, one Prince Ijoga Okwoche and Pastor Wilson Gabriel, appealed to both the state and local governments, as well as the Och’Idoma and Och’Otukpo for support in any way possible, as they had nothing to fall back to.

Meanwhile, one of the victims, simply called Mama OC, who was yet to return from the Christmas holidays, lost all her belongings in the inferno.

It was gathered that efforts were made to reach out to the fire service in Otukpo, but all proved abortive.

The fire incident whose cause remains unknown as at the time of filing this report, destroyed sewing machines, electronics appliances, clothes and other items.

Meanwhile, The Voice’s attempt to contact the Station Commander, Federal Fire Service, Otukpo, for comment failed as he was not in the office and his phone line was not accessible.
