The Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), has commenced enumeration of affected households and persons in flash flood areas as a result of the excessive rainfall in Makurdi.
A statement issued by the BSEMA information officer, Charity Agber, revealed that, the enumeration started recently and areas captured so far are: New Kanshio Layout, Wurukum, Akpehe and the exercise is to be extended to others areas.
It stated that, the Acting Executive Secretary, Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), Sir. James Anodoakaa Iorpuu, who conducted the enumeration with BSEMA staff at the affected locations within Makurdi metropolis, sympathized with affected persons.
“The Ag. BSEMA boss expressed his sympathy with the affected persons and assured them that, the State
Government led by Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia will do everything possible to address the flood menace through construction of streets and water drainage channels around the affected areas within Makurdi and other major towns as well as strengthening BSEMA through establishing Local Emergency Management Committees (LEMC) in each Local Government Area to manage disasters.”
It further, explained that, the BSEMA team led by the Programme Manager, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Operations, James Iorhuna, alongside other team members who have been carrying out the profiling, beginning from New Kanshio Layout, included other valuables and food items, while capturing the affected households, saying the team will continue the profiling until all the affected households and persons are captured.
