The Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Keffi has given people two weeks to claim nine corpses that are still languishing in its mortuary, or else it will have to consider mass grave burial.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer ( PRO) of the medical centre, Esther Bature and made available to journalists in Nasarawa State on Friday.
According to the statement, the decision to issue the deadline is due to the fact that some of the corpse were brought in 2021 and others in 2022, thereby exceeding the time limit of 6 months permitted by law.
“Consequently members of the public who lost their loved ones during the stated period indicated herein, my please, visit the hospital’s morgue for possible identification and claim,” she said.
She emphasised that the medical centre would be forced to give the 9 corpses a mass burial if the two-week period, which began on Friday, September 22, 2023, expired.
