Former commissioner survives assassination attempt in Nasarawa

The former Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources in Nasarawa State, Mr Musa Ibrahim has survived an alleged assassination attempt on him by unknown gunmen in Doma Local Government Area of the  State.

Ibrahim, who is contesting to represent Doma South at the state House of Assembly on the platform of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), while narrating his ordeal in an interview with The Voice, alleged that the perpetrators of the act were high profile politicians outside his  party.

According to him, the incident occured on September 21, 2023 at about 5:30pm close to Igbabo village when he was returning from Rukubi town where he had donated relief materials, including cash and other items to victims of flood disaster in Doma Local Government Area of the state.

“After the donation, I was going back from the town to Doma when about nine gunmen opened fire on me from different directions, the bullets hit me on the front which was blocked by my GSM handset, but they shot and hit me on my elbow and back.

“46 bullet shots hit and penetrated my car and I allege that the perpetrators are high profile politicians outside my party,” he said.

He explained that a good Samaritan rescued and took him on a motorcycle to Doma where he was conveyed to the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH) in Lafia.

The former commissioner  revealed further that three bullets were removed from his body at DASH, two AK rifle bullets from his ribs and one metal ball from his back.

He, therefore, called on the police in the state to investigate and bring perpetrators of the evil act to book.

On his part, the Chairman of Doma LGA, Ahmad Usman said the matter has been reported to the Police for action.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, DSP Ramhan Nansel said: “I can confirm that this incident happened on 21 September, 2022 and investigation has commenced as effort is ongoing to arrest the perpetrators of the act.”

The Voice learnt that the victim spent three days at the Intensive Care Unit of DASH, but has been to an taken undisclosed hospital for security reasons.
