Officers of the Nigeria Police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) are contending with locals as a fuel-laden tanker crashed, covering the entire breath of Makurdi-Gboko road at Abinsi.
Commuters on either ends of the road are held in a standstill, as there is no immediate alternative route.
Intending commuters to Gboko from Makurdi may wish to take the Makurdi-Igbor-Wannune road while Gboko to Makurdi may take either Gboko-Aliade-Makurdi road or Gboko-Wannune-Igbor-Makurdi road.
Fire fighters are on hand, checking the situation to avert any explosion.
It will take a Federal Road Safety Safety recovery van to go through Wannune to take a vantage point, in moving the tanker off the road.
The cause of the accident is not immediately known. However, a resident, Fanen Iorbee, told The Voice, at the scene that it would probably have occured in the early hours of Tuesday, 7 September, 2021.
