The governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, was recently, honoured with a Humanitarian Service Award by the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) in Abuja.
This was made known in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Tersoo Kula and made available to newsmen.
Presenting the award to the governor at Transcorp Hilton, the Secretary General of IHRC, Prof Rafal Macin Wasik said the award was in recognition of Alia’s commitment towards securing the lives and property of the people of Benue State, as well as his administration’s determination to ensure the return of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) back to their ancestral homes.
While receiving the award, Governor Alia said he was humbled by the recognition accorded him by the IHRC.
He thanked the group for acknowledging his administration’s efforts at promoting and safeguarding the fundamental rights and dignity of all the people within and outside the state.
According to the statement, the governor who dedicated the award to the people of the state, promised to do more in order to make the state better.
